Olga Mural Field at Schoonover Stadium
Olga Mural Field at Schoonover Stadium is a baseball venue located on the campus of Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, United States. It is home to the Kent State Golden Flashes baseball team, a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I and the Mid-American Conference East Division. The stadium opened in 2005.[1] It has a capacity of 1,148 and is surfaced with FieldTurf.[2] The stadium is located on the site of the former Kent State baseball field, Gene Michael Field.[1]
The stadium was opened on April 1, 2005, with Kent State losing to Ohio 6-2 in front of 476 fans.[3] The field cost an estimated $3,000,000 in construction costs. A $1.53 million donation by Steve Schoonover covered much of the costs. Schoonover made the donation in the name of his parents, Hal and Julia Schoonover, for whom the field is named.[4]
In 2006, area philanthropist Olga Mural donated $1,000,000 towards further renovations to the field. The playing field at Schoonover Stadium was named after her in recognition of the contribution. Prior to this, the stadium had been known as simply Schoonover Stadium.[1]
